About Mhlengi_Real

Mhlengi Benson Khuzwayo, better known as Mhlengi_Real, is a DJ and Producer that adds a unique touch to house music, with special interest in subgenres such as Deep, Afro and Deep Electronic house music. He was born and raised in Port Shepstone, Kwa-Zulu Natal. Mhlengi_Real matriculated at Gamalakhe Commercial High School in 2011, at the age of 18 years. It was during that point in time that he discovered his love for DJing, as music had always been his passion and a part of his everyday life. He keeps his life multifaceted and apart from DJing and producing music, he studies Electrical Engineering.


Mhlengi_Real started by DJing at local events in and around his hometown between the years 2010 to 2012. It was only in 2013 where he was introduced to the club scene and soon obtained his DJ residency at Backline Night Club in Margate, Kwa-Zulu Natal. Mhlengi_Real was, and still is, determined to pursue his dream of sharing his exceptional skill with the world.


His name has gathered a lot of attention to date, some of which emanates from his DJ mixes having been played on the following radio stations:
- Umhlobo Wenene FM (on Masigoduke with Amaza Ntshanga, Reggie Solani, Loyiso Sitsheke and Zizo Tshwete);
- Gagasi FM (on The Kings Drive with Sphectacula and DJ Naves) and;
- Radio Sunny South (on the Zwakala Afternoon Drive with Mr. Caphuna and DP Man) and as a result was awarded residency as the Monday Mix champion.


Mhlengi_Real has worked with the likes of 104 BPM who is currently signed by an independent record label based in the United Kingdom, run by DJ and producer D-Malice. He has shared a stage with world renowned BET award winners Black Coffee and Sjava; including musicians such as DJ Fresh; Black Motion; Fistaz-Mixwell; DJ Tira; DJ Sbu; Zakes Bantwini; DJ Mdix; Naima Kay and many more.


Some of his greatest highlights thus far have been playing at the following events/venues:


- Eyadini Lounge (Umlazi, Durban)
- Friday the 13th (Zig-Zag, Durban)
- Ugu Jazz Shandess (Senzi's Lounge, Margate)
- South Coast Bike Festival (Senzi’s Lounge, Margate)
- Backline Night Club (held a residency, Margate)
- Street Food Market (TB Molefe Sports Ground, Gamalakhe)


Mhlengi_Real draws his musical inspiration from DJs and Producers such as Culoe De Song, Da Capo, Enoo Napa, Atjazz and Black Motion. He is an independent DJ and Producer who aims to release his new body of work in February 2019. What you can expect from this project is house music with touches of jazz-funk, soul and some original percussion sounds and rhythms of the South African culture.
